Please answer one of the following questions based on what you have read thus far.

Fiction:

  • You board a train and discover you have the choice of sitting next to the main character or another character in the book. With whom would you choose to talk? Why? What would you like to ask the character? What would you tell him or her? (Remember, you do not need to choose the most admirable character.)
  • From one of the character's points of view, answer the following question: Who in your life understands you the least? How do you think he or she will come to understand you better?

Non-fiction:

  • A museum has asked you to fill a glass exhibit case with information on the topic of your book. Which three facts or ideas from this book would you want museum-goers to know? Why? Are there any other artifacts you would include?
  • Why do you think the author chose to include the pictures and diagrams in your book that he/she did? How do they help convey the message of your book?

Finished:

  • The main character of your book had problems that he or she couldn't solve. Choose two unsolvable problems, explain how the main character deals with each and why each one was impossible to resolve.

  1. Finished: The first problem my character couldn't solve was how to control the outcome of the dreams she gets sucked into. She attempted to solve it by studying books on sleeping but she could not think clearly in a dream to get enough focus towards one outcome. Another was she couldn't tell anyone about her "special gift" because she thought it would get totally blown out of proportion so she never did tell and kept it a secret.

  2. I am looking from Paul's point of veiw from my book Breaking Point.
My dad is rediculous. He never wants to spend time with me. Ever since he found that new girl, he never even returns my calls. I call him and send him letters all the time but I never hear a respose out of him. He even tells his secritaries not to put my calls through when he is at work. The only time I did talk to him is when he has a new secritay and forgets to tell them. I wish he would just understand me more.

  3. If i could sit next to anyone in my book it would most def. be Damen!!! I would sit next to Damen because appaently he is super good looking. And i think that he would have a good personality. I would ask him if he could take me to summer land and if he could tell me how to read minds.I would also ask him if he could make me immortal as well that way i could live forever!!

  4. If I were to sit next to anyone in the book "ECLIPSE" it would be Isabella because she has a really strange obsession with ending her human life and becoming a vampire. I really don't understand why anyone would even want to do that.

  5. I have finished my book, Because of Anya by Margaret Peterson Haddix. It was a great novel. One unsolved problem in this book was the girl with alopecia areata never got cured and never got her hair back. It was impossible to solve because this disease cannot be cured. The other unsolved problem was that Stef, the mean girl, never came out of being stuck up. This couldn't be solved because she always wants to be the in the spotlight.

  6. I finished my book! My main character was the author, James Frey.
    PROBLEMS:
    1. James couldn't deal with the death of Lilly (girlfriend). James deals with his problems by accepting Lilly's suicidal decision of killing herself and going to her grave everyday, with roses. So he doesn't have a girlfriend anymore.
    2. James' other problem is that he is trying to find a job but no one would employ him (if they did, he wasn't getting payed enough). So, his best friend Leonard asks him to deliver a few "things" to his "customers" to get paid. James takes the job but gets scared on his second or third day at work because he was threatened by a crazy man with a gun. So James stays unemployed.

  8. If I could sit next to anybody in my book, it would most defiently be, Thumbelina. I would ask her soo many questions! Like, why didn't your Mother leave Lester? What made her mother want to be so rude to her won daughter? Yet at times she was so nice to you. How did she feel when she found out her Mother died, and that she was pregnant at the age fourteen? I would most defiently be horrified and not have a clue who to tell and what to do with the baby.

  9. I would want to sit next to Katniss in my book, "The Hunger Games." If I actually got the chance to sit next to her I would ask her how she is able to fend for her little sister Prim, and her mother. I would ask this because she is only a kid and is able to go out and hunt for meat and berries to feed her family. If you ask me thats pretty amazing. She also does all the stuff around the house and watches her sister all the time to make sure she is okay. Also I would ask her how she feels about being in the hunger games and not being able to take care of her family. From Katniss's point of view I would say the person (people) that don't understand her the most, would be the kids from the richer districts. I think that because they don't understand how much she goes through to take care of her family and the probably don't understand why she's not pretty and clean like they are. She cant help it though because she is from district 12 which is considered the poorest district.

  10. If I boarded a train and got to sit next to a charater in my book I would sit next to Jack. I would sit next to him because he has a really good sence of humor. Also he is really nice. I say he is nice because he wanted to take his real sister home to his parents, but she did not want to go so he left her with the hobgoblins. Also after the Lady of the Lake took Lucy he went after the Lady of the Lake. When he found Lucy she did not want to go home either so he left her with her real mom the Lady of the Lake (an elf). Also he let time free in The Land of Silver Apples. That is why I would sit with Jack and not Pega.

  11. If I had a choice of who I would sit next to on a train I woul definitely sit next to the only character the book really talks about, Brian. I would ask him about his experience in the wilderness and how he got through it. I woul tell him that he should be proud of himself for coming out alive.

  12. Out of all the characters in my book, I would want to sit next to Srulik Frydman. Throughout the book Srulik has always been an admireable character and always seems to be optomistic in his worst situations. I would ask him how he managed to live in the forest alone with one arm. I would ask this because Srulik was only about 9years old when this occured, which to me is incredible. Also, I would ask how it felt the moment he realized the nazi had killed his parents and his sister. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to hear that. I would tell Srulik that he was extremley lucky to survive the Holocaust and that his life story brought me to tears.

If i was on a trian and i had to sit next to one of the main charater i would sit next to the shaman Oogruk because he is the wise man and i would like to ask him what life was like groing up in a village like that. I would also ask about the way the hunted because the he told it in the book was eye cathing but not that detailed and i would like to know more. that is why i would sit next to Oogruk on a train.

  15. I believe that in my story Miracle On 49th Street that the main character Molly has a couple of people who don't understand her whole life story that much. I think that the adopted parent she is living with right now, Barbara. I believe this because Barabara is tyring to play the mother role in her life right now and only one person in the world could do that and that is Mollys mother, Jennifer. The only thing that makes that so hard is that Jennifer recently died from instant cancer. I think that Barbara could have a better relationship with Molly is that if Barbara tries to be her friend more than her mother. Barbara could also try to lay off for a little while, while Molly adapts to the situation with losing her mother

I would sit next to him because he seems very nice and he can play basketball good just like me and he could teach me a few tricks. And i would also ask him,how did you feel when your dad died. Also i would ask him, why didnt you take your oppertunity to play with the U.S.A basketball team. That is reason why i would sit with him.Thirk Hayes OUT!!!

  17. If i would have to choose between Gerald or Angel to sit next to i would choose Gerald. I would sit by Gerald because he is the main character in the book and that i want to see what are his felling about his life with his new family. The question that i would ask is "Do you think that your life will be better now that Jordan went to jail for 6-10 years?" I would also ask "What do you think is going to happen to you and Angel when Jordan gets out of jail?"

  18. If I went on a train and got to sit next to anyone of my charecters it would be Katniss. I would want to sit by her because she is a true survivor. I would ask her how she kept her family alive after the horrible incident. I also would want to know what it is like being controlled and watched at all hours with no stop. Also what it is like haveing barely any freedom to do what you choose. Finally the most important question would be is she falling for Peeta or Gale more and which she could she her self with.

  19. If I could sit next to anyone in "Harry Potter Order of the Pheonix", it would have to be... Luna Lovegood! Okay, this girl is nuts! I think I would just want to start a conversation with the girl just to see what she would talk about. She is supposed to be like really spacey (if that's even a word) and random. I would definitally have to ask her to make me one of her life-size, lion head hats that roar! I would also want her to give me a copy of the "Quibbler" and see what is in it because her dad is the editor and its supposed to be full of complete bologna. So strange!!

  21. Well I'm Finished my book and one of the problems were that she didn't no her real parents and now she found out their dead except for her grandmother, well thats not really an unsolved promblem but all the poblems were solved in the boring book. Another promblem was that she was new to the town and she made new friends but then she had to leave them because she wanted to see her real biological grandmother to find out more about her parents expecally her mom knowing that she already died. So those were two of the problems in the book because again all the problems were solved

  22. If I boarded a train, I would definatly sit next to Leland Gaunt. He sounds so cool in the book! I don't really care that he's evil... He seems like someone you could have a nice conversation with. Plus, maybe he could hook me up with something I really need like he does in the book. Although the concequences would be rather great, I think it'd be worth it. And maybe he could teach me how to hypnotise people with my eyes. That'd be preeetty cool.

  23. The person i would probably want to sit next to is Max. Mainly because she is realy hot:). But the other reasons are because she would be the most fun to talk to. I'd probably ask her what it feels like to fly. I would try to avoid the subject that her half brother is dead and on how hard life is for her right now. When the bus stoped i'd probably ask her for a hug and tell her good luck in life. Thats why I would sit next Maximum Ride.

  24. If I could sit next to anyone in my book it would be Janie. I would want to sit next to her because she a questionable teenager. She has this way of making like her life is miserable. Then before you know it she loves everything about her. Something I would ask her is what does it feel like to be kidnapped? Why do you feel like you have to look or feel a certain way? Some advice I would tell her is that it doesn't matter what you like or what you were. "Life is what you make it so let make it rock. “Also take one step at a time let life take you by nature and don't rush.

  26. My book is "Among the Hidden" By: Margaret Peterson Haddix. I would choose to sit next to Luke on the the train because he is the main character. I would ask him how it is hiding in the attic all day so he cant get caught and going over to Jen's house. In Luke's point of view, I think that the person who undestands me the least is my brothers. I think they will come to understand me better if they have to go through what I go through.

  27. Finnished: The problems that were in my book that seemed to remain unsolved were that my main character, Arnold, couldn't find a way to make his family and friends stop drinking. His father was always drinking, which was a way for him to be happy and spend his money, he also gambled. His mother was not much of a drinker, but his siter was. In fact, Arnold's sister was killed due to the fact that her and her husband passed out due to the amount of alchole that night, and their house caught on fire, and they both burned to death.(how sad) after his sister's death, he promised not to drink duue to amount of people on the rez that have died from drinking too much. Another problem that Arnold couldn't solve is that he couldnt deal with the death of his siter, instead, he laughs because he thinks that his dad might have died in a snow storm. Arnold was upset by the death of his sister, but he deals with it in a unusuall way. Weird...

I would site next to him because he seems like an interesting character because i dont know much about him because he died. I would ask him why he made Giselle feel so ignored by himself. Also, i would ask Thomas was he actually the father of Giselle. Not only that but i would want to sit next to Thomas to yell at him because its like he was the cause of Giselle's aneorexia. That's why i would sit next Thomas.

I would also ask him how he got through the stress of his parents getting a divorce. I would tell him that my parents split up when I was younger, and how I got through it. Asa seems like a really nice thoughtful kind of person. Thats why I would want to sit next to Asa.

My favorite player is Otto Graham. He is known for being one of the greatest Quarterback. He has 54.2% accurate passess! Lou Groza was one of the best Placekickers who played in the probowl. This book has given me a lot of information I did not know before.

  36. My book is "Looking for Alaska" by John Green. The museum asked me to fill an exhibit. So I decided that I would fill it with with things such as, "Don't do drugs, or this is what will happen to you" posters a stuff. Or I'd fill it with things such as "Tips on how to get a girlfriend, for dummies", and also, a exhibit filled with a bunch of stuff that you can use to prank people. These are some of the things i would put in the exhibit because all these things have a LOT to do with the story. I'm kind of confused with this blog, no offese or anything, but why would someone go to a museum to look at my things i chose?

I'm at the part were the damentores there also known as the sole suckers they suck out you're soles and then just die it's not preaty it's rather discusting and also dasterbing. So far harry potter is now really scared of these beastes so he go's the expert. He is very good at the dark arts of magic and spells.

  43. My book is called Rules Of Survival and it is written by Nancy Werlin. If i was to go on a train and suddenly see the charicters in the book , I think I would sit next to Matthew, who i think is the most important charicter in the story. I would choose to sit and talk to this charicter because he is a role model for the rest of his sibblings. I think this is ggreat to set the example to his little sisters,Callie the middle sibling,And Emmy the baby. Also what i think is amazing is that he keeps them out of harms way(there mother.) He makes sure they dont do anything to set off there mothers quick temper. I would ask Matthew why does he put up with his mother? I would also tell him it is a very resonsable task he does taking care of his sisters. This book is fantastic I recamend it a two thumbs up or 10 out of 10.

  48. If I could sit next to one character in my book it would be Leah. I would sit next to Leah because she is the person I relate to the most. I would ask her questions like how she feels about her father's cancer. How does her soccer career affect her schoolwork? What are the drills she uses to practice? I think Leah would say that her mom relates to her the least because she thinks that Leah shouldn't have her life revolve around soccer. I think she would say that her mother understands how much she needs soccer during her dad's illness. Her mother realizes that Leah's life revolves around soccer because that’s what she loves to do.

  49. I am speaking from Fiora's view from my book,Dragon's Milk,by Susan Fletcher:
In my opinion I think that in this story my dracling-sitter, Kealdra apparently despises me because I can always sence her fear. She said she has come for my milk to save her ill sister but she will have to work for it. She has bonded to close to my little hatchlings and I will have to dispose of her once they have fully grown. Ever since my mate was killed it has been so hard for me to be alone.
I, Garzell, think that as Kealdra grows closer to the draclings she can befriend Fiora.

  50. If I could sit and talk to a character in my book, it would be Violet because she is soo different from everyone else in her world. Violet explains that when she was younger, her family couldnt afford to get her a feed so she had to learn to live a lot more independently than the other kids. Also, she can read when very few people can since her dad is a professor of dead languages, which is pretty cool. I would want to ask her her opinion on the feeds since she waited so long to recieve one, and now she is slowly dying because of it.

  51. I would chose to sit next to the main characters sister, Leah. I would ask her what it's like to see her sister go through such a rough patch, and be on an emotional rollercoaster. I would tell her how much I admire her patience, and wish I had her skill of understanding.

  52. Sorry it took me so long to blog, but its Sunday night, and i just remembered about my book. Anyway:
Finished: The setting that my character had problems with was his old school. Every time that Arnold passed or entered his school he was disrespected by people because he left his school to go to a snotty, white rich kid school. Another setting that he had problems with was probually a bar. I can infer this because his grand mother was killed by a DRUNK driver. His sister was killed because she was DRUNK, and his dads best friend was killed due to a man being DRUNK.

I think if Thumbelina or I could change anything about this part of the book it defiently would be that she never became pregnant. This would solve sooo many problems like having AIDS and dieing, being in pain, and skipping school. Thumbelina missed out on a lot of things in life, that were efected by her being pregnant which cause AIDS and then death. She missed homecoming, falling in love, getting married, having a beautiful home, and everything else you do when your older. I think if I asked thumbelina what one thing she wanted to change about herself it would be that she ever got pregnant.
