Please answer both of the following questions:
- Describe the setting of your book thus far. Is this a place that made you think, "I've been there," or "I'd love to go there," or "No way would you ever catch me at this place"? Discuss your connections and feelings about the setting, explaining how you relate (or do not relate) to where your story is taking place.
- Think about yesterday's class discussion where we talked about the various properties of specific genres. For example, we said that mystery books deal with characters who need to solve a problem. So far, what characteristics of your book proves to you that it is, in fact, a Fantasy novel?
My book is Return Ticket by Warren Flynn, takes place in modern times because in the beggining, it describes the main characters Sam, Zak, and Shannon going to school camp. They all rides bikes to meet up with the teachers and other students. I feel that "I've already been there" because this made me think of the first day of school when we all meet up with our friends. The only fantasy characteristics in my book so far the majic because when the main characters take the train to their school camp, it somehow takes them to the past back in 1899!
ReplyDeletethe setting of my book is in some place for scholar called eton soceity i don't think you will catch me here because it;s a exspense place to be and you need a scholarship to get there.
ReplyDeleteThe setting in my book "Blood Promise" by Richelle Mead is in Russia in a luxurious hotel with a hot tub, mini bar, huge t.v. and a large bed. No matter how good all of that sounds I would not want to be there because the main character is being held prisoner there by a bunch of strigoi. Strigoi are vampires who are bad and murder people and I would not want to be there. I can tell my book is fantasy because vampires aren't real and the main character, Rose, is faced with the impossible mission of hunting down her true love, who was forced into becoming a strigoi, so she can kill hi mand set him free because she knows that is what he would have wanted.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm reading a book called ''Hidden Talents''and the setting is at a school for bad kid's who get's kicked out of reguler school and this kid named Martin is at that school becuase he disrespect's the teacher's and talk's back to the teacher's and gives the teacher's a hard time. No way would you see me here because it's for people who does like what Martin did and other situations. Yes, sometimes I get myself into trouble and sometimes I can be ''rude'', but I don't think I should be at that school for bad kids because I can be good...
ReplyDeleteMy book is the Confessions of the ugly step sister written by Gregory Magure. The scene so far in my book is a small city in England. The three sisters with their step mother are poor very very poor. The ladies live in a small one bedroom house. I wouldnt want to be caught dead in a place such as this. The streets are filled with trash and waste. The girls and their mother must go from door to door at times to even try to get a little scrap of food for themselves. I wouldnt want to visit this place because I could get sick from even walking in the streets. I dont like being sick!!
ReplyDeleteMy book is titled "Black Dragon Codex".The setting of my fantasy book is a place that I would like to be because it is a hilly lanscape during medieval time period. I relate to this setting because I enjoy the mystical atmoshpere and the existence of dragons. I have an interest in dragons because I like adventurous flying creatures that are personified in the story. I figured out this book was a fantasy novel because the story said that there was a person waiting to get off his feet and take to the air. Usually a person cannot fly if they are not in a plane.
ReplyDeletemy book is Coraline by Neil Gaiman and so far the main character Coraline, she finds a door in her new house and when she frist opens it its bricked up. Then the next day she opens it, it leds to a dark hallway so she goin in there and it is like her world but different. So she ends up talking to animals and stuff but thats all that really happened in my book so far.
ReplyDeleteThe book that i'm reading is "Impossible" by Nancy Werlin. So far the setting in my book takes place in this neighborhood where there is a flashback or a preview before the story even begins. The setting is in a house that's kinda old and rundown. In Nancy's bedroom she finds a secret hiding place under her floor boards. I would want to be in that house because it seems kind of mysterious adn who knows what else hidin places are in that house. It reminds me of like the book "The secret Attic" or "The Magic Treehouse" series because it seems so secluded and unknown which i like.
ReplyDeleteSo far in my book there really have not been any characteristics in my book that prove that it's a fantasy novel. Minor properties that might lead you to believe that it might be a fantasy novel is that Nancy is a adopted child because her mom went crazy after she had Nancy at 16. Also, in the book Nancy is talking about going to prom and usually in fantasy novels prince and princess type stuff happen at proms and dances.
The title of my book is called Well Witched and the setting of my book takes place in a deserted strip mall, a wishing well, and Ryan and Chelle's houses. You probably would catch me at a wishing well throwing money in but you probably wouldn't catch me anywhere else because they are places i normally wouldn't think of going. I know my book is a fantasy novel because the information in the beginning of the front cover tells me that there is a witch that is apart of the wishing well and that Ryan, Josh, and Chelle will develope special powers as a conciquence for stealing the money out of the well.
ReplyDeletethe setting of my book is a place in london. then it goes to a fantsy land that we would say looked like italy.you might catch me there be cause sky (my main character) seems like a nice guy and i would like to meet him.then when it goes to the fantasy land you would probaly never catch me there because i do not want to ever go to italy.
ReplyDeletethe thing that proves my book is fantasy is the fact that when he fell asleep with a empty perfume bottle in his hand he traveled through time and space.
And Shakira, i think you would do great Eton Soceity. I say that because you are a very smart girl.now if you say you would not get there then you are bring yourself down. if you do your best you might have been able to be there ( that is if it were even real).

The reason I wanted to read Return Ticket by warren Flynn was because of the summary on the back. To me, the summary sounded really interesting, because my book is about 3 children that ride this train and somehow end up in the 1890's! I really wanted to know how the characters get out of this problem. Other than that, the front page of the book has a picture of a young teenager with a train behind him/her. When I picked up this book for the first time, I wanted to know what the picture ment in relationship to the story.
ReplyDeleteThe title of my book is "Well Witched" and i chose this book because when i looked at the front cover the title looked like it was dalugional and it looked like the letters were melting. the picture on the front cover was three kids wich were Ryan, Chelle, and Josh. they were surrounding a well that was glowing. What also popped out at me was the word "witched" which meant to me that i was going to be creepy because it involved a witch. The summary also said that the three kids would be developing powers as sort of like a curse for stealing out of the well.
ReplyDeleteMy book is called Coraline by Neil Gaiman and what made me want to read this book is the fact that I saw the movie about the book and I liked it. Plus the summary of the book was interesting and it made me want to read it.
ReplyDeleteI chose the book "Impossible" by Nancy Werlin because when i looked at the cover it really looked good. I know looks can be decieving but the cover did atract me. The way the cover was made the book showed emotion and that really drew me in. Another thing that made me want to read the book was the title. The title "Impossible" leaves a lot of loose ends. It makes you wonder what is it thats impossible or what's the conflict going to be so it really made me want to read it. Another facotor that drew me towards the book was the summary of it. The summary said that it was about a girl who had to complete three impossible tasks and that only true love could save her. This summar really got me intrigued because i really wanted to know the three tasks and i wanted to see if the girl would get a happy ending.
ReplyDeleteWell the movie that would be most like the book written about me and around me would be The Wizard of Oz. The book I come from is the Wizard of Oz. I have an easy thing it didn't take that long.
ReplyDeleteThe thing about my book "Blood Promise" that said read me was the fact that the book was about vampires and those are one of my favorite kind of books. Plus the book is the fourth book in the series of "Vampire Academy" and I had finished the other three books that were really good and I was dying to know what happened in this book.
ReplyDeleteThe thing in my book that said "READ ME" was the cover at first and then when I read the summary, the thing that caught my attention was the fact that the boy was traveling through time and space to some place like italy. Then as I was reading it,the topic sorta caught my eye. It caught my eye because there is romance ,dishonesty, disloyalty to the king, and even Sky cant trust the king. And as Sky travels back and forth to "italy" ,he learns that he has to keep his personal life out of what he has to do.One reason why Sky can not trust the king is the fact that he sent a beautful dress to the girl that his son really likes. Then the king decides to ask the same girl out and she is younger than his youngest son. Those are the reasons why my book said "READ ME".And that is why I choose that book to read.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to blog on October 22.....so I chose this book because the book cover looked cool and I couldn't find a fantasy book in the library so I chose this book. The book that Iread was called ''Hidden Talents'' and this book was so good that I read it in one day. I usually I say books are a waist of time and boring but this book was so interesting to read.
